Indications of Generic Vaseretic
Vaseretic or enalapril/hydrochlorothiazide is a combination ACE inhibitor or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor and thiazide diuretic. It works through removing the excess fluid from the body as well as helping blood vessels to relax.
Vaseretic is primarily used for the treatment of high blood pressure. It can also be prescribed for other conditions or purposes as determined by your doctor.
Important Information about Generic Vaseretic
You should not take Vaseretic if you have an allergy to enalapril or hydrochlorothiazide.
Tell your doctor if you have other medical conditions that you have been diagnosed with or are receiving treatment for, particularly if you have: skin inflammation, diabetes, blood vessel problems in the brain such as stroke, high potassium levels in the blood, bone marrow suppression, low sodium levels in the blood, scleroderma, heart disease, severe immune system problems, lupus, asthma, liver problems, kidney problems or if you are on a low-sodium diet. You should also tell your doctor if you have an upcoming surgery or if you are scheduled to receive anesthesia. If you have any of these, your dose might be lowered or you may be advised against taking Vaseretic.
It is also important to tell your doctor if you are using other medications or drugs such as other ACE inhibitors, thiazide diuretics, NSAIDs, dextran sulfate, diazoxide, narcotic pain medications, barbiturates, gold-containing medications, celecoxib or salicylates, corticosteroids, digitalis glycosides, dofetilide, ketanserin, lithium, insulin, muscle relaxants, potassium preparations, sulfonylureas, potassium-sparing diuretics and thiopurines to be sure that they would not be interacting with the effects of Vaseretic or that they would not cause any harmful side effects.
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Vaseretic as doing so could increase the side effects of the medication like dizziness and lightheadedness. These effects can also be aggravated by hot weather and exercising. To prevent falling or dizziness, try to sit or stand up slowly, particularly in the morning. You should also exercise extreme caution while driving or doing other activities which require your full alertness.
There are some medical test results which can be affected by the use of Vaseretic. Inform any doctor who is treating you that you are taking this medication.
The safety and effectiveness of Vaseretic has not been established in children.
You should not use Vaseretic if you are pregnant, as this medication can cause birth defects or even death of the developing baby. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant, are trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Dosage and Administration of Generic Vaseretic
You should only take Vaseretic or enalapril/hydrochlorothiazide as your doctor has prescribed. Do not take a larger dose of the medication or take it for a longer time than
what has been recommended for your particular condition.
You can take each dose of Vaseretic with or without meals.
To get the most out of this medication, it is advisable to take it at the same time every day. It would also help you to avoid missing any doses.
Continue taking Vaseretic for the entire time that it has been prescribed, even when you are already feeling better.
If you are unsure on how to take Vaseretic, ask your doctor or health care provider.
If you miss a dose, just take it at once. However, if the next dose is almost up, you can just the dose that you missed and then go back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses together to make up for one you missed.
If you overdose on Vaseretic, you should get emergency medical treatment at once. Some Vaseretic overdose symptoms include weakness, fainting and dizziness.
Possible Side Effects of Generic Vaseretic
Some of the side effects which may be experienced while taking Vaseretic or enalapril/hydrochlorothiazide would include headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, tiredness, dry cough and vomiting. These should resolve on their own but if they do not or if you experience more severe side effects, consult your doctor.
