What is Diovan?
Diovan is sartan drug used to lower blood pressure. Diovan is drug of class angiotensin 2 receptor antagonists. FDA approved usage of diovan is to control blood pressure. Valsartan is generic equivalent of diovan. Diovan may also prescribed with other blood pressure lowering drug.
How Diovan Works?
Diovan works by blocking activation of angiotensin 2 (an enzyme). Angiotensin 2 is protein that moderates contraction of heart muscles. Higher level of this protein causes narrowing blood vessels and increases work load on heart. By blocking action of angiotensin 2, diovan expands blood vessels and there by decreases pressure put by blood on walls of arteries.

Patient should not take diovan if allergic to any of the ingredients of this medication.
Diovan is prescription drug and one must not take this medicine without consultation with doctor.
Diovan may also be prescribed for treatment of heart failure and heart attack.

Diovan Precautions
Diovan usage is not recommended in pregnancy and breastfeeding women.
Alcohol lowers blood pressure at some extent. Patient may see sudden drop in blood pressure if alcohol is taken while taking diovan.
Avoid taking potassium supplements.
